We endeavour to help our farm hosts, classroom speakers and volunteers as much as we can to make there donated time as effective as possible, allowing them to impart their message with little disruption to there working day. CI Project Coordinators will take care of as much of the organisation as possible by:
- liasing with schools to discuss appropriate dates and venues for talks or visits. - Conveying any desired learning outcomes. - Carrying out risk assessments. - Health & Safety on Farm Visits
Awareness of health & safety is paramount to a successful RHET visit. As the leading provider of farm visits for children in Scotland we are deferred to for best practice by a number of national organisations and as such we ensure strict adherence to government recomenndations in this area.
- RHET will carry out risk assessments on all farms prior to any visits. - We hold public liability insurance for all visits that we organise (however we suggest that each farmer checks with their own insurers also). - We adhere fully to government guidelines on many related issues such as trailer-rides and the consumption of food during farm visits. - We will outline fully the roles and responsibilities of both farmers and teachers during each visit. - Where appropriate we will request Disclosure Scotland Checks.
Volunteer Training
When you volunteer with RHET you will be given opportunity to attend a speaker training seminar. This will outline some of the techniques to utilise when speaking to children. Some of the things the training will recommend are ways to:
- Deliver talks with confidence. - Keep the interest of your audience. - Use body language and tone of voice - Pitch to the appropriate level for differing age groups of children. - Make use of the RHET Speaker Kit (given to all new classroom speaker volunteers
