The late Charles Brown was a former Chairman of RHASS (Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland) who always had a true passion for the outdoors and was keen for all children to have the chance to learn about the countryside.
Pat Godsman, sister of Charles Brown has donated the Charles Brown Trophy and Trust in celebration of Charles’ life and his enthusiastic support of the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET).
THE CHARLES BROWN TROPHY
In honour of Charles Brown, RHET are proud to launch the “Charles Brown Trophy”.
This is a peripatetic award for Scotland, presented annually to a school in a chosen RHET area who have submitted the best project based on their experiences of a RHET Farm Visit. The chosen area will rotate each year until all 12 Countryside Initiatives have been awarded the trophy.
The competition asks pupils to create a project to show how the class have experienced and learned from their Farm Visit. This can be illustrated in any way they choose (e.g. stories, a collage, short film, PowerPoint presentation etc.).
This competition is aimed at school classes of children aged 5-18 years, who have taken part in a Farm Visit with RHET.
Prize:
The winning school will be presented with the Charles Brown Trophy and awarded an expenses-paid farm visit or transport costs to a local show.
2009/10:
In the academic year 2009/10, the trophy will be presented to a school within the Royal Northern Countryside Initiative (RNCI) area.
2010/11:
This year the chosen area is RHET Angus CI. If your school is based in the RHET Angus CI area (Angus and Dundee City) and are planning to undertake, or have undertaken, a RHET Farm Visit, you are eligible to enter the competition to win the Charles Brown Trophy.
