An interactive education pack produced by RHET on behalf of Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) for schools in Scotland.
This resource is aimed at raising awareness of the importance of red meat in a healthy balanced diet. It considers how cattle, sheep and pigs are looked after on their journey from field to plate, including animals husbandry, basic nutrition and the place of red meat in world religions.
The teaching materials are relevant to a number of areas of the curriculum and are tailored to the new guidance for a 'Curriculum for Excellence'.
It is aimed at all stages of the primary curriculum but is particularly useful in mid-upper primary school.
Resource includes the following:
• Notes for teachers with a 'Curriculum for Excellence' links and background information.
• Background text for direct teaching and for independent use by learners.
• Sources of evidence including posters and digital material on the CD-Rom.
• Flexibility of use - Meaty Matters can be used as a self-contained learning and teaching resource, can complement existing topic studies or be selected to supplement programmes of study.
