RHET Estate Days are programmed to give children from urban backgrounds an experience of getting out of the classroom and into the countryside to learn about the life and processes of a working Scottish Estate.
The events are designed to give the children who would benefit most from an experience of the outdoors an insight into how their food is produced on a working Scottish estate.
A typical event consists of classes from six local urban schools being invited for the day. On the estate children take part in hands-on activity sessions around the estates grounds linked to farming, the environment and conservation.
Some of the activities which have taken place in the past are:
Pond-dipping
Farming
Forestry
Outdoor Access
Deer Larder
Gamekeeping
Activity sessions are kindly provided by volunteers made up of staff from the estate and rural organisations such as:
Local Council Ranger Services
Forestry Commission
The Deer Commission
Scottish Gamekeepers Association
Local Police Wildlife Crime Units
Countryside Access Groups
RHET seek full funding for these events, including transport costs.
Past funders of events include...
The Whitaker Trust
Scottish Government Foot and Mouth Disease Fund
