RHET is very excited to be introducing this new project for primary children.
We will bring a Tractor to your school to use as the focus for cross-curricular experiential learning witha focus on Science, Maths and Technology.
Children will be given the opportunity to learn about how a tractor works, what it does and what it might need to work in the future.
RHET have taken this successful project developed by the British Agricultural and Gardan Machinery Association (BAGMA), used in schools in England, and have adapted it for the new Scottish Curriculum for Excellence.
When the Tractor comes to your school it will be (where possible) accompanied by a Tractor Dealer or a Farmer who will talk to the children about what a tractor is and what it does and some of the safety aspects of being around large farm machinery . Varoious parts of the Tractor will be looked at, discussed and measured, the children will be asked to consider the global and environmental factors affecting food production and accordingly design a tractor of the future.
The Tractor visit can be used as a one-off, fun event or to supplement a wider topic. The project has a curriculum linked workbook that contains enough activities and classwork across all subjects to fill a whole term, should you choose to.
