Bus funding success

We are delighted that Borders Machinery Ring (BMR) have generously supported RHET Borders with funding to contribute to the cost of buses for farm visits.

It is always expensive funding buses, but proving increasingly unaffordable for schools this year, with the cost of fuel so high. For the first time schools have had to cancel or postpone their farm visits due to lack of funding to cover the buses.

This BMR funding will make it possible for every school to afford a farm visit, and we are hoping to work with some of the schools next year that have not worked with us for a while.

Michael Bayne, Borders Machinery Ring Manager said, “The work RHET is doing with schools is invaluable in teaching children about food, farming and the countryside. BMR is delighted to help support the school transport costs and play a role in ensuring these farm visits continue. It is so important for our industry to maintain the link with the next generation. A spark of interest from a child on a farm visit is all it takes to develop a desire to follow a future career within the land- based sector.”
