He is Spud-tacular

RHET Perth & Kinross has a bank of wonderful volunteers but John Marshall, our Potato Professor takes volunteering to a different level. John has been a committee member for the last 7 years and vital in the huge success of the Potato Project which has run across Perth and Kinross for a number of years now. John really lets children see the journey their potatoes make from the ground all the way to the different forms they can take on their plate and educates them through this process.

This year we have over 70 classes taking part in the ‘Potato Project’ which involves over 1380 pupils. We are very lucky to have WCF Horticulture support us each year by giving us the required seed potatoes. John has so far completed 35 virtual talks to classes ranging from P1 to S1. We cannot thank John enough for his time and expertise. These quotes from pupils really sum it up…..

“We had the Potato professor talk to us today. He was amazing. It was so interesting, and he covered so much. We learned a lot!” Breadalbane PS

“I loved the bit about the noodles – I didn’t know that noodles could be made from potatoes…Potatoes for Life” Tulloch PS
