Lothians Super Spuds Potato Project

We are excited to announce RHET’s Super Sonic Spud Competition is back up and running for 2022. The project helps school children understand how their food is grown by supplying classrooms with seed potatoes and soil to grow their very own potato plant.

Growing potatoes is an easy and fun class project. It covers multiple curriculum areas: science, technology, maths, history, health and wellbeing, and many others.

RHET Lothian, with the support of Caledonian Horticulture, Denholm Potatoes, and Aldi stores will provide schools with the resources and knowledge to grow their own spuds.

The educational project is turned into a fun competition as pupils weigh their potato yield once they are ready to harvest in the summer. The class with the highest yield of potatoes wins a prize from their local RHET committee.

Since 2017, over 200 classes from over 150 schools have taken part. This is a popular experience so please register before you miss out!
