This academic year will follow the Journey of Food focusing on ‘All Things Dairy’.
We understand the importance of bringing the food, farming, countryside and environment to learners on both the farm and in the classroom to enable the discovery and engagement of finding out more about where their food comes from. The upcoming ‘All Things Dairy’ offering will cover all aspects of the dairy farm to fork journey as well as looking at the role of milk in a balanced diet.
Working alongside teachers and industry, we will be providing learning resources and interactive content over the duration of the academic year. This project offering will run alongside our ongoing RHET offering of class talks and farm visits on all things food, farming and the working countryside.
As we launch this new project, we are excited about sharing the stories of the journey of milk from cows, sheep and goats to arriving on our table as butter, cream, cheese, yoghurt, or ice cream! Over the duration of the academic year, we will provide a range of online learning content with a brand new ‘Moo Maths’ pack in the pipeline, an online opportunity to meet dairy calves in November and our ever popular meet the farmer event in March.
We are delighted to have received funding from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) to support the delivery of our ‘Journey of Food: All Things Dairy programme and we will be collaborating to deliver our educational offering for 2024/25. AHDB are the levy board, representing farmers, growers and others in the supply chain and funded by our British farmers.
Hugh McClymont, RHET Chairman and dairy farmer for over 45 years said “Both organisations are keen to show future consumers the detail and commitment that Scottish dairy farmers and their support teams undertake on a daily basis, from caring for livestock and the environment to producing a very healthy nutritious food for us all to enjoy”
Doreen Anderson, Senior Knowledge Exchange Manager with AHDB said “We are both passionate about working in collaboration to reach more young people and children to share the fantastic work that dairy farmers do to produce our food, as well as caring and maintaining Scotland’s fantastic countryside”
