Festive Learning

Why not incorporate some food and farming based learning in the run up to Christmas?

Wonderful Woolly Crafts

Why not have a go at using wool to make some Christmas decorations?

You can download our online craft pack full of ideas including wool angels to use in school here.

Ordering sheep and wool resources for using in the classroom

We are also able to offer schools (free of charge)

  • threads for weaving,
  • unwashed wool (which you can clean with warm water and detergent)

If you would like to do felting in school or require any additional materials you can find these to purchase at adelaidewalker.co.uk

Reindeer and reindeer dust

Many reindeer dust recipes involve glitter (a microplastic) and other non-recyclable ingredients. Most schools make reindeer dust of some sort and with limited additional effort you can make sure your reindeer dust is environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Below you will find all the information you require to make your own reindeer dust in school. If you are feeling inspired and want to expand this session into a teacher training opportunity linked to STEM get in touch to organise a festive training session training@rhet.org.uk

Help the garden birds

It’s not just the reindeer that need extra food at this time of year.

You can also play an important role in helping small birds over the winter months, when food is hard to find.

Making simple bird feeders and hanging them up in the school grounds helps ensure some of our smaller garden birds are well fed.

Scottish Christmas Hamper

Add our hamper to your December register!

Find out more about the wide variety of locally produced Christmas foods (and more!) in the RHET Scottish Christmas Hamper.

Christmas Cookery

If you are making food for reindeer you might be interested in trying some simple Christmas cookery.

Keeping with the oat theme why not try making some muesli or overnight oats with leftover porridge.

For a more Christmassy food session, here are a selection of simple recipes:

  • Mincemeat in a bag which can be made easily in school
  • No bake snowballs
  • Advent-spiced-crusty-scone

Our ‘Reindeer Dust’ project is part of The Journey of Food: Seeds and Grains.
