Do you have valuable farming and food knowledge that could guide pupils in making responsible choices relating to food?

Could you help children to understand where their food comes from? 

Are you passionate about the Scottish countryside?

Would you like to help raise awareness of Scottish rural issues?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, the Royal Highland Education Trust needs you!

All we ask for is a little of your time.

Year-on-year, RHET receives a growing number of requests from Scottish schools for information on food, farming and the countryside.  RHET responds by organising farm visits, classroom speakers and supplying educational resources to schools.  

We are always looking for people who are willing to spend some time helping us to spread the word about farming in Scotland and the Scottish countryside. 

Whether you have a background in farming/and or food production or not, we need the following:

Classroom Speakers - whether you are a farmer, have experience in farming and/or food production, or just have an interest in the topic, we will train you and provide you with the resources you need to speak to classes

Farms & Estates - for school farm visits and estate days 

Committee Members - to run your area's Countryside Initiative and to organise and attend events

Stewards and Helpers - for school events, estate days and in the Children's Discovery Centre at The Royal Highland Show

RHET is involved with a large number of events and activities across the whole of Scotland from planting potatoes in schools to local agricultural shows. We could not continue with our work without the generous time donated by hundreds of volunteers who help us with farm visits, classroom talks, estate days, Count & Grow, healthy eating events, taking tractors into schools and the Royal Highland Show, to name but a few.

When a volunteer hosts a farm visit or talks to a class in school their enthusiasm carries over to the children they speak to. This is where the strength in RHET's work lies.  A spark of interest in a young child can grow into an informed choice, or an enthusiastic career, as an adult.

By getting involved you will become part of a national network of hundreds of farmers, rural workers and like-minded volunteers who pass on their expertise and enthusiasm about food, farming and the countryside.
