Grow, cook, eat!

Teachers from Lanarkshire and Glasgow met up at Coltness High School in Airdrie for some fun in the kitchen recently. This session was part of the Good Food Champions programme, which is delivered in partnership.

On the day they worked alongside the team of education professionals who have been supporting them through their journey on the course since September last year. Along with RHET, the Soil Association, Quality Meat Scotland and North Lanarkshire Council were on hand to assist the teachers.

The mix of primary and secondary teachers learnt more about food and health, cooking and tasting, sustainability and the journey from farm to plate. This experience is also being shared back at school and in cluster groups.

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) accredited programme, now in its second year, has additional the support of Scotland’s Rural College, The Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health, Scottish Food and Drink Federation, RHET Clyde and the Museum of Rural Life. The teachers are also assisted by a raft of local individuals and businesses.
