Journey of Food Seeds and Grains Gets Festive

If you are new to volunteering for RHET the Reindeer Dust project is a magic way to get involved, the classroom session involves telling the story of a little pony who wanted to become a reindeer, teaching pupils how hay is made, and the nutritional value of oats and why we should look after the environment, not forgetting making some sustainable safe reindeer dust for Christmas Eve. Its easy fun and great for getting in the festive spirit.

Coming up next in March 2023 we are planning to repeat last year's very popular digital event "Talk to a Farmer" The weeklong project involves pupils all over Scotland joining a 30 min digital session with Farmers from all over the country. We are on the look out for farmers who would like to get involved, they would be supported by their local project coordinator to create a short video of their farm, this is used as the introduction to the online Q & A session with schools in March.

The national school growing project Grow Your Own Loaf, will re open for schools to register for FREE wheat seeds in February 2023, the accompanying 6 session learning plan is available to use via the Journey Of Food Seeds and Grains wakelet at any time.

As well as these larger national projects, each CI has growing, art and breakfast projects planned, to complement the routine Talks and Farm visits. Please also remember that our food and farming events are run throughout Scotland if you enjoy the buzz from these amazing learning experiences, please ask your local coordinator to put your name forward to other areas.

Finally, as we head towards Christmas and a new year, if you are thinking of a fundraising challenge, please consider the Kiltwalk  RHET  is one of the Scotish charities who can benefit from your effort, the walks are in 4 cities in Scotland  throughout the year, they are fun, achievable and most importantly the Tom Hunter Foundation will top your fundraising up by 50% to find out more click HERE
