National Progression Award (NPA) in Agriculture - Jedburgh Grammar Campus

Following a review of the curriculum on offer for the young people at Jedburgh Grammar Campus, Head Teacher Susan Oliver
and her team recognised that the context of their school community required them to be creative and offer an opportunity which would meet the needs of learners who were keen to learn more about the countryside, the environment and agriculture.

Geography teacher Rowan Sinclair led the introduction of the course, including gaining approval from the Scottish Qualifications Authority, and the school are now about to recruit their second cohort of young people.

A key to the success of the course so far has been the strong partnership with Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET). This has opened up the opportunity for farm visits and classroom talks, bring learning alive with real life experiences being shared by local farmers.

"We are hugely grateful to the RHET Borders team for their ongoing support.

"This partnership has enhanced the opportunities and experiences we can offer children and young people across different stages of their education, from our youngest learners to those about to move on into training or employment.

"Every joint project we have worked on has been fun, inspiring and informative for our pupils and staff alike, and we are delighted to now have the team’s support in delivering a national qualification which is relevant to so many of our young people and meets the needs of our local labour market."
