Ready, steady, GO!

This summer RHET are encouraging 5 – 12 year olds to have a go at some food, farming and countryside challenges as we launch our FIRST EVER Summer Challenge.

We have a range of challenges set up under the following headings:

  1. Get Growing – get planting at home
  2. Discover ingredients and cook – try new foods and have a go at cooking
  3. Go Wild – get outdoors and see what you can find out about your surroundings
  4. Get Crafty – some fun activities for a rainy day
  5. Putting food on the table – discover more about the people behind putting food on the table

Anyone can take part and you have the whole of the summer holidays to get involved.  We are providing a range of different activities, from a range of organisations for you to try, together with a tick sheet to record what you do as you go along.

Once you’ve carried out and recorded your progress on the challenge sheet email the sheet to training@rhet.org.uk and we will issue a summer challenge certificate.

Emaan Basset, RHET Intern said “The RHET Summer Challenge incorporates education about the outdoors with fun and creative activities that keeps kids entertained and provides fun learning opportunities.  The content is split across different formats and we have a range of videos, worksheets and recipes.”

RHET’s purpose is to bring farming, the working countryside and its practices to life for young people. They work with partners to provide and deliver world-leading learning opportunities for all Scotland’s young people aged 3 to 18.

RHET aims to provide the opportunity for every child in Scotland to learn about food, farming and the countryside and to create a wider understanding of the environmental, economic and social realities of rural Scotland.

RHET delivers classroom talks, farm visits, food and farming events and teacher training as well as delivering educational opportunities as part of the Royal Highland Show.
